Maserati Ghibli Trofeo review: a 200mph BMW M5 Killer!?
This is the Maserati Ghibli Trofeo!
It’s Maserati competitor to high-performance saloons such as the BMW M5 Competition & Porsche Panamera Turbo, and Mat’s about to find out if you should choose the Italian over a German!
Well for starters, let’s take a peek under the bonnet, and the first thing you’ll notice is that the engine’s red. The reason it’s red is because it’s based on the engine that is used to power the Ferrari Portofino and Ferrari Roma! The power output may be down slightly compared to the Ferrari, but it’s still no slouch! It’s a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 580hp and 730Nm of torque. When it comes to power, Maserati claims it can propel the Ghibli Trofeo to 60mph in just 4.3 seconds. So it’s pretty impressive, although it’s still a full second slower than the BMW M5 Competition…
When it comes to the design, the Ghibli Trofeo looks pretty similar to the regular Maserati Ghibli, although there are a few subtle changes. Up front, you’ll find vents in the bonnet and a carbon fibre splitter, and along the side, there are optional 21-inch wheels and red inlets added to the side air vents. Around the back, it’s all pretty similar to the standard car, apart from the addition of a carbon fibre rear diffuser.
Take a step inside, and the design of the interior seems slightly middle of the road. If anything, it’s maybe a bit dated. Thankfully though, there are a few elements we’re really impressed with. There’s an all-new modern infotainment system in the centre of the dash, and there are also a pair of sports seats for the driver and front passenger. There’s also the option to choose a carbon fibre pack which adds carbon to the centre console, door trims and paddle shifters!
So it’s a seriously smart car, but as a result, it then comes with a pretty serious price tag - £121,745! So do you think it’s worth it? Or would your money be better spent on a German competitor? Let us know in the comments!
