In twenty twenty-two, scientists hope to send a tiny camera to the Moon to search for extraterrestrial life. Here is a surprise, though: while the new James Webb Space Telescope will be exploring distant exoplanets the LOUPE mission’s lens will be taking pictures of Earth. Is this a joke? Not at all: scientists want to find out how exactly Earth looks from space so that the James Webb Telescope could search for similar and potentially habitable exoplanets. That’s because astronomers have been long puzzled over the question raised in the mid-twentieth century by physicist Enrico Fermi: where is all the extraterrestrial life? While observatories are preparing to receive the first data, I suggest we consider the most interesting theories to explain the Fermi paradox. Can we be the only living beings in the Universe? Or maybe Earth is just an exhibit in someone's zoo?

This two-meter marine arthropod was found in Morocco in twenty eleven. The remains of the monster looked like a completely inconspicuous boulder, in which paleontologists discerned Aegirocassis, an extinct animal with spikes on its back and a pair of legs. But, as it turned out later, the remains were poorly cleaned of dust, which concealed a few more nuances of the animal’s appearance. Archaeologists discovered that there was something like gills growing on Aegirocassis' back, its mouth was surrounded by two appendages for filtering food, and it turned out to have two pairs of legs. But who knows, if they had cleaned the fossil even more thoroughly, they could have found even more limbs, and it would have turned out that in reality, Aegirocassis looked like this. Images of ancient animals created by paleontologists and artists are still very symbolic and inaccurate. So in this video, we’ll create more plausible portraits of the strangest extinct animals. And then you’ll know which dinosaur had human hands, which fish became a bird, and most importantly, we’ll define which extinct animals looked even creepier than we thought.
