Just north of the Martian equator lies a 45 km (28 mi) wide impact crater that scientists believe may have been the site of an ancient lake. Here at Jezero Crater, scientists theorize that its frozen soil may contain the most significant discovery of humankind, life. What’s more painful: a punch in the nose or a venomous ant sting? We can figure it out. With the help of a "dol". Dol is a unit of measurement of pain. From the word "dolor", meaning "pain". This measure was suggested by the doctors from Cornell University back in nineteen forty. The researchers inflicted pain upon medical students and pregnant women by applying heat of varying intensities to their bodies. And recorded their reactions. But since pain is highly subjective, the dol didn’t become known internationally and never found its way into common use. However, the doctors’ work and the test subjects’ sufferings shouldn’t be in vain. Though the resulting system is imperfect, it gives an overview of the intensity of pain of a diverse nature.
